This is my first attempt to write a story in the third person and let me tell you...it wasn't easy ! Because my previous stories were based on my experiences, it was natural to write them in the first person. That made it very easy to conjure up feelings, people and places-even whole stories. Creating characters and a narrative out of the air, as in this story, is a lot harder.
The characters in Four Women are composites of friends, relatives, neighbors, people I've worked with. The story is a complete fantasy. But of course my experiences in West Virginia and my experience being divorced and broke informed this story. So I guess that's how fiction works. And it is work!!!
